Tangier day trip from Casablanca

Quick Details

Operational Days: Daily
Meeting Point: We pick you up from your hotel or riad in Casablanca
Starting time: 07.15 AM
Duration: 1 day

The trip will begin in Casablanca, where we will pick you up at your hotel or riad. We’ll then take the highspeed train, so we arrive at Tangier in less than three hours.

Our first stop will be the Pasteur Avenue where we will find different emblematic places like the “Terrace des Paresseux” or the “Café Paris”. After a five-minute walk we will find ourselves in the Grand Socco. There we would see the locals enjoying the different possibilities Tangier has to offer, either in cafes or a relaxing walk through the gardens right next to it. The Mendoubia Gardens is a perfect place to chill, full of dragos, a tree found only in the Canary Islands and western Morocco.

Our next stop goes through going up the Tangier Mount, visiting the Hercules Cave until we get to the Cap Spartel, the northernmost point in the whole continent. The undoubtedly photogenic lighthouse is a perfect place to have a tea or coffee while enjoying the views.

The Grand Socco also marks the end of the Ville Nouvelle, which leads into the Medina, the historical city center. It’s an adobe labyrinth full of narrow streets that go down the cliff towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Our next stop is north oriented, the Grand Mosque that is right next to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, built by the Spanish in 1880. We will keep going straight through the Siaghine street to the eye of the storm that the Medina is, the Petit Socco. This place called upon the travelers and authors the likes of Paul Bowles or Jack Kerouac; it is a must when visiting the white city. With the relax vibes even in modern times, is easy to see the old locals enjoying some tea, a perfect Moroccan impression.

We only need to go forward, to the Kasbah, the old sultan house. The door will lead us to a big courtyard and ultimately to the Kasbah museum and the Dar el-Makhzen palace. A 17th century building that has been expanded by each sultan that lived there, showcases the mastery of the Moroccan artisanry with its carved wood ceilings and marble courtyard which make this palace an absolute must.

Continuing southeast we find our last stop, the American Legation, former American consulate and the oldest American diplomatic outpost. Made into a museum, it showcases the relationship between the Morocco and United States, one of the first countries to acknowledge the independence of the latter. Inside we will see the letter Washington sent to the prince Moulay Abdullah.
